Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 (February 27, 2010) Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small community situated on the West Island, which is an island in Montreal. This West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is an extensive area that extends from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel is said to be born on the West Island. This is not the truth. Brugel grew in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. She had a dream to dance but the growth rate of her body meant she literally outgrew the dancers she was with. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6'1 inch. As I got bigger than my male partners, I quit. For Brugel, it was the guidance of the drama instructor at her high-school that led her to begin acting. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the school's annual production. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role in the annual school production. It was the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she took classes in theatre and was awarded an Associate's Degree in Fine Arts in the year 2000. In the 20+ years since Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 plays on the small and big screens attracting the most attention after she landed the character of Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian on the season 1 Cast of the show as well as appearing only on occasion, was the sole Canadian.
